Keynote Speakers & The National Honors Society

9 Skills Keynote Speakers Must Teach National Honor Society Students

The National Honor Society prepares students for leadership and life-long success. They admit the brightest students with high academic achievement. Successful keynote speakers recognize the talent and opportunities in front of these students and give practical leadership tips in the following areas.

  1. Character Traits of Leaders

National Honor Society students are a blend of extroverts and introverts. Their backgrounds and cultures differ. Therefore it’s essential they understand the kinds of character traits that will be critical for their success.

Speakers prepare students when they talk about:

    • Integrity and truthfulness. Leaders lead by example and if they do not act with honor, they encourage those below them to be less than honest or truthful. Integrity is one of the main qualities that make a good leader great.
    • Trust. Venture capitalist say they look at the top management of a company as the final and most essential part of making the decision to invest. Even if the fundamentals look good, if the management does not appear trustworthy, they will pass on the deal.
    • Positive outlook. Leaders take risks and they need to get their team to support them. Innovative leaders find new opportunities to help their organization rise to new heights, and a motivational speaker can teach students how to tap this potential in themselves. Keynote speakers can help students learn how to gain a positive outlook and see the possibilities, even as they recognize challenges.
  2. Valuable Leadership Skills

Although students may receive a great deal of instruction on these skills, a good presenter can delve deep into how to develop them and when and where to apply the skills.

    • Organization. Leaders get things done. The best leaders find ways to use their time and resources in the most efficient way possible.
    • Speaking up and speaking out. Most young people don’t start out at the head of a company. They need to work up the ladder. One of the best ways to get noticed and to increase their visibility is to speak out. Explain the proper time and place to make views known to be seen as leadership material.
    • Influence. The power of persuasion helps students set a standard, and influence people and outcomes. They need not wait until they are in a leadership position to exert this influence. Indeed, by stepping up and exerting your influence, students can become the leaders people are looking for.
  3. Social and Intrapersonal Strengths

Every leader needs to deal with people. The better they get in these skill sets, the more others want to follow them. National Honor Society students need not be charismatic to lead their team or, ultimately, their company, but they will benefit from mastering these skills. Keynote speakers may want to address these topics, as great leaders motivate people by showing they care about them.

    • Team building. People don’t always get along well. Helping smooth those rough edges between team members will bring out leadership qualities.
    • Praise and reward. Encouragement can motivate people sometimes more than money. Help students learn to look for ways to praise and appropriate methods of demonstrate appreciation.
    • Appropriate feedback. Presenters can help students learn successful methods of giving and receiving feedback.

Effective keynote speakers will help National Honor Society students learn the character traits, leadership qualities, and interpersonal skills that are most likely to set them up for a successful future. Choose a speaker with a dynamic, engaging style that keeps the audience riveted on the talk. A confident motivational speaker who radiates enthusiasm instead of reading from a script will have maximum impact with the students.
